Find Your Tribe

A few years back, I went on a safari in Botswana, Africa… It was an overnight journey, so we got to sleep in the middle of the bush, surrounded by animals. A honey badger walked right up to my leg, monkeys swung above our tents all night, and we could hear wild animals while we slept.

The following day we woke up and began the safari. We weren't 5 minutes in when we came across a pack of lions. They had been less than 300 yards from us all night long. As we sat and marveled at these creatures, I noticed one of the mama lions started to make her way over to the vehicle. I got a little nervous because it was an open-air vehicle, and the lioness clearly could have jumped in and attacked had it wanted to.

I expressed my concern to the driver and he responded, "This is why it is so important to stay in the vehicle. All the lions see there is one giant creature. We are all one massive animal to the lions. The second you walk outside alone, the lion will see your weakness, and that's when they attack."

And so it is in life... An old saying, "if you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together." I would add, "If you want to go fast and far, you need to go with a tribe!"

Since the beginning of man, humans have created tribes and communities to support each other and survive and succeed much more manageable. The past two years have made it more complicated than ever for people to get together and be one as a tribe or community. I always say, "God brings us together and the devil divides!"

When the Covid-19 pandemic first hit, I lost two friends to suicide in the first six weeks. Both of those men were very social and had felt isolated during the shutdowns. Maybe they would have been ok if they had a tribe to be with, maybe not. But I knew instantly my role in this pandemic was going to help people see past fear and bring them together to support each other.

Six months ago, I launched my men's coaching group, "We Are The They," and if I'm nothing else in this world, I am a collector of amazing people. I find the right pieces, put them together, create the container and let the magic happen. That's what this group is all about. 50en that have indeed come together and formed a tribe. Each man finds himself with 49 brothers willing to help at a moment's notice.

Men… if you haven't yet found your tribe or even if you have and want to expand it. Please don't listen to me; listen to these men that make up this movement. It's called "WE" are The They because alone we can't go far, but we can do anything together.

The program just went live today for the first time in 6 months. Check out our website at wearethetheymovement.com, and if it calls you, I would love to see you apply. 👊🏼
