This past weekend I was hiking and catching up on life in Sedona with some of my high school friends.
Sharing time talking about our lives, things we need help with, and things we are working on and working through...
One of my buddies brought his sister's ashes so he could lay them to rest in a place she loved... We all shed tears at one point in the trip and all went home knowing we had a few brothers always at our side.
While I was away, I started to see a few videos and photos popping up on my Instagram from members of my coaching community, "We Are The They."
We have a few different groups, and each had a separate get-together over the weekend... The Tribe got together for dinner at one of the members' houses, Group 2 had over 20 families show up for a surprise birthday party for one of the members of their group, and Group 1 had several couples going on group dates and hanging out.
Here is a picture of the text I received from the member who had the surprise birthday party that day is attached....
I had a lot of time to think and so I started to ponder what I am really doing here... what is We Are The They really about?
Yes, I'm trying to start a movement to show the world what real men look like; and yes, I'm trying to help men heal from past wounds, but I am really building is community...
Something that has been lost over the past 15-20 years.
A recent study by the Survey Center on American Life reported that the % of men without even one close friend has jumped from 3% to 15% since 1990...
1 in 5 single men reported not having even one close friend.
This stat broke my heart because I have been blessed with some amazing friends who are essentially like my brothers.
I can't imagine going through life not having these relationships to lean on...
When people talk to other community members about WATT, they often want to know if it is worth it. What I am most proud of about this movement is that I know every guy feels wanted, appreciated, and accepted.
The reason for that is because it is a community.
I alone could never make every member feel that way, not even close. But the community is what makes it special.
Two members of WATT recently sat down for a podcast on Adrian Maco's podcast, and this exchange -https://www.instagram.com/reel/CsUQE4mPvfK - meant everything to me...
Where do you go for community?
Where do you meet new, like-minded men working to improve themselves daily?
If you need a place, we want you! We just opened our group "We Are The They" for the first time in 3 months and if you feel called to join it, please set up a discovery call today and let's connect.
This life is hard enough to go through it alone; let's do it together!
I'll leave you with this quote from the book Palm Sunday…
"What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured." ― Kurt Vonnegut
