7 Things To STOP Doing Now To Get The Life You Desire

Too often we think about all the things we need to start doing to be successful.  Just as important and probably more so is to rewire the bad habits and retrain ourselves to stop doing certain things that sabotage our success. Here are 7 key things you need to STOP doing today to have the life you want.

1.   TRYING TO BE RIGHT INSTEAD OF GETTING IT RIGHT

Anytime you find yourself in an argument with another person, stop and ask yourself this question, “What if what I think about this wasn’t true?” In that moment, if you still want to fight about it, you are fighting simply to be right instead of trying to get it right.

2.   RESENTING THE SUCCESS OF OTHERS

There is nothing less attractive than listening to somebody try and down play or justify the success of another. Success and greatness should be celebrated always and when you can truly be happy for the success of others then you start to attract more of it into your own life. You suddenly realize that it isn’t by accident that success shows up to you and others.

3.   LISTENING TO OTHERS THAT HAVE ALREADY PUT THEIR DREAMS ON THE SHELF

Sadly, many of your biggest critics in life will be people close to you.  They will think they are helping you in some way by telling you it is better to live down in life and not take risks.  These very same people, almost without fail, have chosen to shelf their own ambitions and life dreams.  Don’t do this.  Don’t let other people that don’t know you try and deter you from living your best life. At the end of all this nobody will care if you have failed 50 times, they will look at who you became after all those failures and realize you ended up on top cause you got up 51.

Personally, I want a life full of adventure, failure, success.  I want all of it to be experienced on a mass level so that when I look back on my life I can see and I will know that I truly lived!

4.   THINKING YOUR PAST DETERMINES YOUR FUTURE

A wise man once told me to “move on from every experience quickly.” Doesn’t even matter if it was a good experience or a bad experience.  You never want to become the guy that “used to be somebody.” You need to constantly be recreating yourself and realizing that the past and the future only exist in our heads.  The present is all that is real. To let something that is past and done control your mind space and control who you are today is a fool’s errand. The only reason the past matters at all is because it got you to where you are today.  Honor it, appreciate it, and realize that it no longer has a purpose.

5.   PRETENDING YOU DON’T DESERVE EVERYTHING YOU’VE EVER WANTED

As I have grown older more and more I realize that the people that seem to have it all in this life simply decided they would have it all.  People talk about luck and assume that they either have it or they don’t.  The truth is, we create our own luck and it is created through hard work.

I have huge goals for my life.  One of the reasons I have huge goals is because every time I set a goal and worked towards it I started to achieve them.  Things I didn’t realize I could have started to be in my grasp and one by one I was acquiring them, achieving them, and experiencing them.  Everyone can have this same thing!

6.   WASTING TIME DOING “OK” OR EVEN “GOOD” THINGS

This is one of the biggest obstacles that the majority of the world goes through.  We have lives that are good and so we think we are good enough.  The problem with having an “ok” life or one that is “good enough” is that you will never know just how great it could have been. We stay in ok relationships and good jobs. We have one life to live, do you really want to look back 15 years from now and realize that you stayed in a job or a situation that you weren’t truly passionate about? This is so sad to me that this happens.  If you aren’t sincerely happy, risk losing everything because it’s all shit you probably don’t want anyways! This is the craziest part; you literally have nothing to lose.

7.   LIVING THE LIFE THAT OTHERS WANT FOR YOU

When I was 21 years old my dad volunteered to pay for my cell phone, car, gas, and school as long as I was pursuing a path that he wanted me to.  It was a generous offer, it truly was.  He had my best interest in mind and thought he knew what was best for me.  But he didn’t.  I quickly learned that what he thought I should want was not what I actually wanted.  Because of this I went into his room one day and simply told him, “Dad I’m cutting myself off. I’m going to pay for all my own stuff from here on out.”

He actually fought me on it a little bit and told me he just wanted to support me.  I knew that was true.  But I also knew that I needed to be my own man.  I worked hard before and after college classes to make this happen and I began to blaze my own trail.  I am forever grateful for that decision because I truly got to live my own life and I never made choices based on what somebody else wanted for me.  I really believe this is one of the most important things I’ve ever done.  There is so much honor in knowing that your path has been your own.

I am interested to hear which of these things you need to stop doing in your own life? Please comment and share.
